What's going on in the Community?
Neighborhood Update: December 2011
From Board President Tim Valentine
As I write the final Newsletter article for 2011 I reflect on the past year and wonder where the time went. I know we are all a year older and hopefully a bit wiser – but, where did the time go?
The past two months have been extremely active for the Community. We held our Annual Halloween Parade and Decorating Contest, planned our budget for 2012, held our Annual HOA Board Meeting, had the Christmas Decorating Contest and continued landscape renovations at the entrance of the community.
The Annual HOA Board Meeting went very well: the group attending (21) persons was small, but provided great input and feedback to the Board. Based on this input we will be working on the following items during the upcoming year:
- Continue to upgrade the landscape at the entrance.
- Evaluate the need for additional street lights.
- Work with the Town of Mooresville to improve the situations (smell and alarms) at the pumping station on the Golf Course near the Lockerbie Lane cul de sac.
- Food drive to keep the shelves full at the Mooresville Soup Kitchen (great senior project for one of next year’s High School seniors?)
Two new Board Members were elected to a two year term. We would like to welcome Bernice Bishop and Skip Alexander to the HOA Board and thank departing member Steve Berchoff for his many efforts – especially the development of the Architectural Review Board.
John Yvars (Sanitation Superintendent), Officer Kevin Davis and Pete Hiltz (Hiltz Management) also gave excellent presentations at the meeting. Pete made a simple statement that really stuck out when he said “many homeowners will make the mistake of waiting until they are ready to sell a home and spend several thousands of dollars in upgrades to improve their value. Make those changes now so you can enjoy them”. Simple but true – and prior to making those changes – be sure to get approval from the Architectural Review Board. The Board is here to work with you – not against you.
Finally, if you want to get involved in any of the activities we have in the Community, please feel free to call any of the Board Members. We can always use your help in planning activities or using your expertise on a community project. Trust me, we can use all the help we can get.
On behalf of the HOA Board I would like to extend to each of you a very safe and happy holiday season.
Sincerely, Tim Valentine
Mailbox Maintenance

Just a reminder to check your mailboxes and numbering to
determine if they need repainting and renumbering. If you
have a difficult time reading the numbers than it is time to
paint and number. The number standard is in the Muirfield
Community Covenants and Restrictions.
The house numbers are extremely important in assisting
first responder personnel in identifying a home in the event
of an emergency- when every minute counts.
Muirfield resident John Fioravanti (owner of Avanti Painting)
can assist you in this process, as well as any of your
interior and exterior painting requirements.

Welcome Voelker Family!
We recently welcomed the charming Voelker family to our Muirfield community. Having moved to North Carolina from Michigan, the Voelkers had been living a comfortable life in Huntersville for the past 10 years. John enjoyed occasional drives through our community taking simple pleasure in the quiet and beautiful surroundings; of course, it did not hurt that we are located on the Mooresville golf course.
When John saw a home for sale, and it overlooked “his lake”, aka the 15th fairway, he headed back to his family to discuss a move. It didn’t take much convincing and, well, you know the rest of the story. When you see a member of the Voelker family out walking their two dogs, take a moment to introduce yourself and reinforce their excellent decision to become a part of our neighborhood.

Welcome Committee
Yellow Ribbon Program
Welcoming Military Personnel Home from Service
Through word-of-mouth coordination, neighbors on Swift Creek, Muirfield, and Lockerbie have presented a visible WELCOME HOME to the children of Muirfield residents returning from assignments in combat zones.
Dozens of large and small yellow ribbons have been attached to mailbox posts, extending from the Muirfield entrance to their families’ residences. These ribbon-posters would like to extend this visible welcome to other returning military personnel - when requested by a family member or neighbor, or for a special veterans’ occasion.
To request the posting of a welcome sign and yellow ribbons, or to assist in making and posting the ribbons, please contact Skip Alexander (704) 662-9155. Thank a vet today!
